The Cannabis Substitution Project Evolution- In the Beginning
The Cannabis Substitution Project has been handing out care packs of cannabis edibles from VANDU on Vancouver’s downtown east side for nearly 7 years with great success. It is all run by volunteers who arrive twice a week to long line ups of mostly regulars who use it to offset the use of opioids and other street drugs. All of the cannabis is by donation. The care packs consist of 4-6 edibles and 1 or 2 joints. People report that it also helps them in a variety of ways from pain to sleep disorders and much more. The goals of The CSP-1) To make it as easy as possible for people who are at risk of overdosing on opioids and other street drugs, to transition onto cannabis as a substitute.2) To demonstrate the safety of using cannabis, even high doses of concentrated extracts.3) To demonstrate that cannabis, especially in the form of high dose edibles, is effective as a substitute for opioids and other street drugs, as well as its effacasy for many other health issues.4) To put pressure on all levels of governments to allow for and support access to cannabis for MEDICAL purposes including high dose edibles.5) To allow cannabis in all of its forms to be provided to anyone on disability for a large range of medical applications.
It opperates thanks to a marvelous team of unpaid volunteers and generous donators. The good news is that No one has been harmed in any significant way despite many people who have recieved our care packs eating "too much" on occasion.( It is an uncomfortable and undesirable experience that's usually not repeated)The great news is that we have been saving lives and helping people in very significant ways.We regularly have it reported that people are sleeping better, eating better, and generally feeling better with much less pain. The bad news is that what we are doing is not only NOT being supported by governments who claim to want to help with the overdose crisis but our actions continue to be criminal according to the law and the liberty of our donators are under constant threat.I have hope and am looking forward to making positive strides towards achieving our goals in 2019.
